Getting Started With GIG of the Day Emotional Support Activities

Emotional Support Activities

Brain Stim Emotional Support Activities are referred to as the GIG of the Day.

GIG stands for Greetings, Inspiration, and Gratitude.

Recent research proves the effectiveness of certain non-medical interventions in helping all people, despite their health or circumstance, to feel better emotionally.

We also know there is a direct correlation between emotional health and cognitive health, so it is imperative that we strive for the best emotional state possible.

Now more than ever, it is crucial to use proven techniques that help keep those negative emotions at bay while boosting positive feelings like happiness, calmness, peace, acceptance, and love.

By consistently following the GIG of the Day instructions, you are not only providing dementia-friendly cognitive stimulation, but you are also providing emotional support to both you and the participant.


Each day, use a Conversation Starter to help initiate friendly communication at the beginning of the activity time or any time you have a few minutes to chat.

Allow the participant to answer first or if they are hesitant, give a short answer, and encourage them to follow up.

There is no wrong answer to any question so this is another opportunity for success but the Activity Partner does need to steer the conversation towards a positive discussion.


Inspiration Moments guide you through a series of thought processes that science has shown to help people feel happier and less stressed which ultimately can improve brain health.

Inspiration Moments regularly expose participants to things that are positive, funny, and happy to help keep them in a positive state of mind while taking their minds off the things that are causing them to feel bad.

Simply read the Inspiration Moment of the Day as part of your routine and discuss it as desired.

Gratitude has received quite a bit of attention in the world of cognition lately for good reason.

It is now believed that practicing daily thankfulness has a powerful impact on emotional health which by design, also impacts cognitive health.

The reality is that it is very difficult to practice gratitude when you are experiencing loss.

The Gratitude Activity is designed to help you find tiny examples of things to be thankful for at the moment, from the past, and from others.

Intentionally practicing gratitude allows you to benefit from the emotional and cognitive improvements scientists now know are possible.
